Preserve Description

This nature preserve on the south side of the Mississinewa River is named after the landmark 25-foot limestone pillars, also protected by ACRES, on the north side of the river. Centuries of erosion shaped the pillars, carving out alcove-like rooms.

In late winter/early spring, visitors can spot bald eagles fishing along the banks of the Mississinewa River. The preserve trail winds through forest featuring spring wildflowers such as spring beauty, Dutchman’s breeches and squirrel corn.

This land is sacred to the Miami people, and the Miami Nation of Indians of the State of Indiana continues to gather at the site today.
