For the Love of Land

Why protect land forever?

Culture. History. Spirituality. Health. Conservation. Adventure. Heritage.

The motivations behind why folks choose to help ACRES Land Trust protect land are as numerous and varied as the species of flora and fauna on our preserves.

Often, there is no singular reason why people visit our properties or become members. Our relationships with nature are very personal and diverse, as evident in the deep map shown above.

As ACRES has grown, we have used your motivations as touchstones to continue to do work that reflects the interests and needs of our communities. Take a walk with executive director Jason Kissel and ACRES members as we explore why our work is so important.

“It gives you a sense of peace [to] know it’s always going to be here and other people will be able to come and learn from it and visit,” said Dana Davis, land donor.

That sentiment is the heart of our commitment to protecting land. Communing with nature, making memories with family or friends, cultivating a connection to something larger than ourselves. Our mission is to care for these special places to continue to provide opportunities for preserve visitors, members, and donors to find whatever they are seeking—for many generations to come.

“There’s just this amazing world waiting right there for you to discover,” said ACRES member Janet Canino. “[ACRES] is just a clear example of how the power of us coming together, how we can each do small things with great love.”

What happens when you think more like a forest than an individual tree? A forest thrives over time through a network of relationships—plants and animals, living and non-living—working together to support and enrich life. Protecting land with ACRES awakens your deep connection to a rich diversity of natural relationships.

Whatever your reasons for joining us, we’re glad to be walking this trail with you!
