Maumee River Overlook

Northwest of Woodburn in Allen County. From New Haven (I-469 exit 21) travel northeast on US 24 about 7 miles, past Sampson Road. Look for ACRES parking lot on your left. Driving distance from I-69 to the preserve is 7-½ miles.

This single acre overlooking the Maumee River on U.S. 24 northeast of Fort Wayne was received as a gift of Dan McCain in 1976.

From its high embankment, a visitor has a panoramic view of the forest-fringed Maumee River and, looking east, the riffles of a rock outcrop known as "Bull Rapids."  Site of an 1870 water-driven saw mill that supplied lumber for the Wabash-Erie canal, which was located along the south border of the preserve.
