Southeast of Salamonia in Jay County. From Fort Wayne (I-469 exit 11) take US 27 south through Decatur, Berne, and Portland. South of Portland turn left (east) on 500S and the right (south) on 700E. Look for the ACRES parking lot on your right just after you cross 600S. Driving distance from I-69 to the preserve is 54-½ miles. Louis A. Bibler gifted these 27 acres to us in 1994. From a rustic log cabin school on this site in 1854 through a 4th progression, the then "modern" Madison Consolidated school, built in 1923, this was a continuously busy educational site until 1967. In 1995 a group of Madison Township alumni, guided by Ralph May, caused a huge boulder to be inscribed on the site, thus providing permanent historical information. The surrounding woods is secondary growth with sugar maple, ash, hickory and oak..
