        Nature Preserve

Southeast of Spencerville in Allen County. From Fort Wayne (I-469 exit 25) travel northeast on SR37 through Harlan. Turn left (north) onto Rupert Road. After crossing Hurshtown Road, look for the ACRES sign on your left, by the lane going into the preserve. Driving distance from I-469 to the preserve is 10-½ miles.

Art Hammer gifted to us 42 acres in 1998, and more in 2004 which expanded it to 90.9 acres.

A patchwork of different stages of forest succession, the preserve has segments of mature growth all the way down to a recovering farm field.  The mature forest has fine beech, hickory, sugar maple, tulip, cherry and oak, while the farm field is scattered with ash, red maple, hawthorn, basswood, elm, black walnut and hop hornbeam.
